"How did I get here?" is a question I find myself asking...well myself....a lot lately. When I do, I often consider this question on any number of different levels....geographically, professionally, personally, spiritually, emotionally.
Have you ever stopped for a moment in the midst of the hustle and bustle of your day to ask yourself this very simple question...."How did I get HERE?" If you do, I think that you might be amazed where your thoughts will take you. (WARNING: don't try this at work if you would like to get anything done the rest of the day.)
For me, the 2 areas of this question I have focused on most lately are geographically and professionally.
Geographically speaking, my family and I recently re-located from Washington state to Southwest Ohio. This was a very difficult decision for us, since we intended on remaining in Washington state for the long-term and raising our daughter there. Unfortunately, life threw us a few curve balls in the last 18 months (as it has many other families) and ultimately the job market nudged us back to Southwest Ohio.
Professionally-speaking...I am currently a market researcher by trade....by way of college, the Army, manufacturing, consumer products, fashion-retail (all I can say is "The Devil Wears Prada" ain't too far from reality...buy it on Netflix if you haven't seen it.)...and now I am back in consumer products. Maybe this career history gives you a bit of insight into why I have been asking myself this question lately.
Though I have pondered many different answers to these 2 questions of geography and profession, I have settled on one answer for both - "because it is right for you, right now!" It may not be the best answer, but I believe that I am where I am supposed to be right now....and this answer allows my brain to settle back into its "resting state."
Though "How did I get here?" can be a time-consuming question to ponder...it is a thinker's question, not a doer's question. I believe the better and more productive question I am more focused on answering is "Where do I go from here?" The answer to this question is one to which I do not yet have an acceptable reply...but it's the question that has inspired me to embark on this journey...."Where do I go from here?"...stay tuned!
